It’s not a galactic surprise that the artist behind Golden Vessel is getting attention, but it’s never a given that side projects actually get traction with audiences. It’s been a good year all round for Maxwell Byrne’s 1tbsp project though, due to the sort of backing you’d expect *and* speedy follower growth on Spotify.
What’s notable about these numbers is that they’re accelerating.
You’d be forgiven for giving an eyebrow raise to the fact that this well-respected artist is getting editorial playlist backing (surprised face!) but that uptick in the pace of follower growth is actually relatively rare.
Despite the existing tailwind of previous success – making editorial playlist adds a near-given – follower growth is often a large part of what gets you onto the big lists, regardless of prior form. That this project is not only making playlist noise but also landing it with new audiences makes it a really interesting one to watch.
