New Music Friday Roundup: Drake, Sam Fischer, Connie Constance, SEB

Every week, my robots scour the biggest nine New Music Friday playlists in the world to see whose getting backed hard by the big green machine. This week:

πŸ† The Champ: Drake

Drake, his new track “Major Distribution“, and his 68m followers stood proud at the top of all nine of the biggest New Music Friday playlists this week, the biggest dog at the front of a whole pack of big ones this week.

πŸš€ The Challenger: Sam Fischer

Sam Fischer’s “Carry It Well” also appeared on all nine of the big NMFs this week, and this level of support for his track about mental health reflects the collective nerve the song touched across TikTok. It’s a super-strong performance though for this newer artist, the same sort of support given to P!nk, Jason Derulo, David Guetta, and Selena Gomez.

πŸ₯Š Punching Above: Connie Constance

Connie Constance also did super well this week, appearing on five of the big nine with the excellent and bonkers “Kamikaze“, taken from her Miss Power album. She’s spoken at length about being put in a neo-soul box earlier in her career, and how this record is about going back to a sound more authentically hers. Even if it is, as she says, a “fuck you to the industry”, the industry seems to be taking it well.

πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈ New Blood: SEB

The new track from SEB (pictured), “lovin u is harder“, barrelled onto no less than eight of the big NMF lists this week, a remarkable level of support that puts him in the same spaces as some far more established artists. There’s clearly excitement building here, spreading from TikTok to Spotify like a fire.
