As ever, all the tracks that make it onto the playlist are aces in my book but if I had to pick no more than five to check out this week, it’d be these.
Bronte Alva – Can’t Help Myself (single)
πΆ Bronte Alva raises an arched eyebrow on “Can’t Help Myself”, as wry and witty as it is frantically danceable. An instant attention-grabber, it cuts as sharply as it shines.
Vetty Vials – The Sun (single)
πΆ Vetty Vials returns with the opening salvo in the lead up to (hurray!) a new album, blue-sky clear melodies and uplifting song holding hands with world-weary resignation and twitching anxiety.
Last Quokka – Out On The Weekend (from the album “Take the Fight to the Bastards”)
πΆ Last Quokka are – as you will rapidly discover for yourself – a bit cross right now. They are, in fact, fed up to the teeth, at the end of their rope, and absolutely *done* with this shit. This is just one from their fist-fight of an album, and is as fearsome, cathartic, and as necessary for our current moment as the rest of the record.
Dvrkworld – Us (single)
πΆ Dvrkworld‘s driving, pounding mix of post-punk and shoegaze continues to impress, wrapping us in a big goth-y blanket and then beating us with bright, pop shoes. Melody swirls in the mayhem, a joyful, chaotic dream for all of us weirdos.
Worm Girlz – Jackie (single)
πΆ Worm Girlz manage to condense an entire cinematic experience into less than three minutes on their latest, a sweeping, rolling slice of mania and thrills. Giddy, brilliant, and barking mad from side to side and top to bottom.
