As ever, all the tracks that make it onto the playlist are aces in my book but if I absolutely, positively had to pick no more than five to check out this week, it’d be these.
If you’re looking for new albums, all the new long-players I’ve spotted from emerging, independent, and DIY artists are here
SINGLE
Dreaming Soda – Kissing Stacey
A fabulously bonkers song, off-piste and eyebrow-raising, danceable and sparkly. When the drums come in I defy your shoulders to remain in place.
SINGLE
jnr. – I guess it’s fine.
Jangles the nerves with the raw honesty of its topic, but soothes with some truly glittering pop. Two and half minutes of clever and challenging fun, bright and brutal.
SINGLE
Off Chops – 07 Corolla
All rough edges around a wounded centre, this is your leathery mate with a tear in his eye, rich emotions with calloused hands. It seems to be about a car but it could so easily be a metaphor for just about anything.
SINGLE
Kobie Dee – Maroubra Villain (feat. Hellcat Speedracer)
Another manic and brilliant slice of collaborative mayhem from this glorious pairing, Kobie Dee’s wickedly smart and slippery lyrical flow bouncing on top of Hellcat Speedracer’s hyper-fun beats and bloops. Lose yourself.
TAKEN FROM THE ALBUM ‘DEAD NIGHT DRIVE’
Tesse – The Newsreader
Gentle, fuzzy, and darkly pretty, this is taken from a whole album full of woozy and loping daydreams, strange but comforting visions of unusual beauty.
