“The Rubens celebrate ten years of their ‘Hoops’ album tonight and while the band and (most of) the fans in the crowd have aged alongside it, they’ve aged like good wine, a patina of experience and familiarity. It’s a long way from pure nostalgia too – we get brand new material tonight, which fits seamlessly into both the top-shelf quality of the wider set as well as into the general mood of an outstanding Australian band with a whole bunch still to do, and for us all to keep on singing along to.”
