SXSW Sydney is coming in October, returning for its third year, and the artist announcements will start to pile up as it gets closer and closer.
The SXSW Sydney team will (based on previous years here and in the US) release their scheduling app much nearer to the kickoff, which will ultimately become your primary way to plan and navigate the vast array of shows happening across the festival.
Veterans of SXSW both in Austin and Sydney will know, however, that preparation is your best friend when it comes to this event. Because the official website has better things to worry about than dorking out about the artist lineup, it’s something I thoroughly enjoy doing in the period between the artists getting announced and the full scheduling app getting released.
So, because preparation is my buddy, I like to build stuff that lets me look at who’s playing SXSW Sydney beyond the list that currently lives on the official site. The tool I use is below, and what it allows me (and you!) to do is filter through the artists who’ve been announced so far by country, by genre, and by Spotify followers. Country and genre are both shown on the official site but they aren’t clickable, and the Spotify stuff is something I added here because I’m a nerd.
You can click out to the artists Spotify profile, reorder the charts using the headers, and click on a country or a genre (or both) to see collections of artists you might be interested in finding out more about. If it starts acting weird (or you select weird things with no data), then just hit the reset button or refresh the page.
I’ll be updating this until SXSW Sydney releases the final lineup. In the meantime, dive into who’s playing – I guarantee there’ll be gems for you to make note of and check out when the fun starts in October.
