New Music Friday Roundup: Charlie Puth, ACRAZE, Rory, Grace Enger

Every week, my robots scour the biggest nine New Music Friday playlists in the world to see whose getting backed hard by the big green machine. This week:

πŸ† The Champ: Charlie Puth

Charlie Puth’s β€œLoser”, taken from his CHARLIE album, was appeared on all nine of the biggest New Music Friday’s this week, but even with 17.4m followers, he wasn’t the biggest artist of the week. Even though Ozuna enjoys a 34m-strong following, his track missed out on one of the big nine, leaving Charlie Puth sitting in the champ’s chair.

πŸš€ The Challenger: ACRAZE

ACRAZE’s β€œBelieve” also managed to make it onto all of the big nine, but with a mere 74k followers on Spotify, this is some big-time exposure. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the track (which deftly samples CoCo Stars’ “I Need A Miracle”) also features Goodboys, but any way you slice it, this is the very definition of punching well above your weight.

πŸ’‘ A New Threat:Β Rory

In a similar boat, Rory’s β€œDon’t Go” made it onto seven of the big nine, a remarkable spread for an artist currently sitting on about 4k followers. Even when joined by the more established Pink Sweat$ and SinΓ©ad Harnett, this is a definite storming of the barricades from Rory.

πŸ” Coming Into View: Grace Enger

It’s always a treat (and fairly rare) for a debut track to make it onto multiple NMFs, and even more unusual to see it happen without hefty TikTok status, but Grace Enger’s β€œThe Neighbourhood” burst into three widely-separated markets this week, with appearances on the Swedish, Australian, and global New Music Fridays. On Friday, she had just 380 followers on Spotify, but this artist’ll be well worth watching to grow that with this kind of support in place.
