As ever, all the tracks that make it onto the playlist are aces in my book but if I absolutely, positively had to pick no more than five to check out this week, it’d be these.
Ruby Fields – Half the Laugh (single)
πΆ Fittingly for a song about there being two sides to things, Ruby Fields‘ excellent latest is half a jerky, eggy slice of post-punk, and half a spill-your-drink rowdy singalong.
Sonic Reducer – NEEDLES (single)
πΆ Sonic Reducer continue to impress with their new track, punchy and spiky and and bloodied. Chuckling with manic energy, it’s a fabulous trainwreck at high-speed.
Max Quinn – GURU (single)
πΆ Max Quinn has broken out of retirement but not out of the habit of writing intelligent songs about unusual subjects. His talent for painting a picture is sharp as ever, and this slice and jab at crunchy-nut wellness is also as pretty a package of music as you’re likely to need.
Benny J Blake – Seahorse (single)
πΆ Benny J Blake adds another trick to his bag, with another impressive track from this new project. Starting with gentle insistence, it builds to swelling and swoops, a delight.
Beryl – What you really meant (single)
πΆ Beryl barely registers above a whisper on this latest, so delicate it’s almost see-through, a leaf on a breeze, a dust-mote on sunlight.
