The Great Awake @ The Hideaway Bar, 24th Nov

“I’m not one to complain (lie), but it’s been a real grind-it-out kind of week. I arrive tonight knackered, fed up, and basically cross at everyone. Turns out I ended up in just the right place to cheer me right up. The Great Awake play a shut-the-front-door set of high speed racket, overflowing with tune, and lifting the spirit back up into the stratosphere. This is a band that understands Husker Du or Leatherface, and it’s as shouty as it is melodious, as roaring as it is friendly, and as bloody glorious as I needed. Genuinely, I could have stuck this set on repeat and listened along until the adrenaline wore off and I fell asleep at this excellent bar; happy as a clam and with one fist raised unconsciously to the sky. Oh hell yeah.”
