Champ Ruby – She Said
A rattling debut from Champ Ruby, which manages to sound both as a Friday night but as smooth as a Sunday morning all at the same time. The whole thing kind of glows, bright and fizzy and tingly.
When a band calls itself Munchy Dolphin, they could at least have the decency to sound like a band called Munchy Dolphin. You keep expecting it to descend into juvenilia, but this is smooth and careful songwriting, strings and pianos setting the scene with deepy restrained guitars adding only the finishing touches. “The Lenores wouldn’t care if they were playing in a empty can of tuna, they’re going to play like it’s Yankee Stadium. Hair! Jumps! Breaking important pieces of guitars! This is why we all love live music, right? When it’s backed by absolute stompers like ‘Excuse’, it doesn’t get much better fun than this.” Facebook […]

“Vetty Vials would be an incredible band just on the strength of that howler of a vocal. Coupled with songs like ‘Pride’ or new one ‘Beacon’ it’s enough to put the damn brains out the back of your head. Eye-wateringly good.” Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Subscribe to The Underground Stage Playlist Thirty freshly-released goodies […]
“Hedy Blaazer’s set tonight is restrained, but it’s like a cold ocean wave; it may not move that quickly, but it damn well doesn’t need to. These are darkly rich songs – you might enjoy the sweetness at the time, but it’s the bitter notes that make it memorable.” Facebook | Instagram Subscribe to The […]
