New Music Friday Roundup: Alan Walker, Pink Pantheress, Nicky Youre, Romy

Every week, my robots scour the biggest nine New Music Friday playlists in the world to see whose getting backed hard by the big green machine. This week:

πŸ† The Champ: Alan Walker

Top of the pile this week is Alan Walker, whose new track “Shut Up” appeared on all nine of the biggest New Music Fridays – his 36m followers on the platform made him the biggest artist to feature across the board this week too, just ahead of Nicki Minaj (27m followers), who also hit all nine marks this week.

πŸš€ The Challenger: Pink Pantheress

Pink Pantheress’s collaboration with her long-standing musical influence Kaytranada results this week in the off-chops “Do you miss me?“, which propelled the British artist onto all nine of the big NMFs. Taking up the same NMF real estate as names like Walker and Minaj is no small thing.

πŸ₯Š Punching Above: Nicky Youre

Yet another act going gangbusters this week is Nicky Youre, who follows up his breakout track “Sunroof” with this week’s new indie-popper “Eyes On You“, which also appeared on all of the big nine. This is huge support for a relatively new act, and will be the test of whether he’s here to stay.

πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈ New Blood: Romy

Standout performance of the week though comes from Romy (formerly of The xx), whose new track “Strongalso made it onto all nine of the biggest NMFs this week. While this is only her second solo release, the timing of this track’s release is impeccable, with the presence of its absolutely-everywhere-right-now co-writer Fred Again.. ensuring that the track received the attention and support it well and truly deserves.
