While the quantity of shows suffered in 2020, the quality most certainly did not. In no particular order, these are five of my favourite sets this year.
TEEN JESUS & THE JEAN TEASERS
This is the show I use from the before-times as the standard to aim at. Once shows are like this one again, things will be back in their proper shape.
JEREMY NEALE
The man just has a magical ability to play songs to transport you away, even on a wet afternoon in a basement record store. He could play the inside of a plastic bag and you’d swoon.
BOYSCLUB
One kinda-silver-ish lining to the pandemic was seeing newer bands on bigger stages – and seeing those stages just get *owned*.
DOWN FOR TOMORROW
Another pandemic side effect was Great Southern Nights, when DfT played the performance space above a suburban musical instrument store. Just the most intense sense of community at this show, as well as awesome songs.
SWEETIE
What a debut! Every show should leave you wanting to see the next one – this one left us wondering how they’d top it.
