BUNCH OF FIVES: Best Gigs Coming Up In Sydney

You don’t get to say you like music if you never go to a damn show. These are five of the best ones coming up in the next month.

See you there, ok?

“Fearsomely Bonkers”
THU AUG 1: Fait Accompli, Witch Fight, We Are Not Robots, Chemical Restraint @ The Lansdowne

Fait Accompli @ Frankieโ€™s, Sydney, 12th Jan 2018

Fait Accompli have long been a favourite round these parts, and their recent ramping-up has been a highlight of the year. The last show I caught was on the day after the Federal Election, and ended up being one of the most fearsomely bonkers sets I’ve witnessed. With any luck, they’ll still be in the same mood and tear The Lansdowne’s face off for this show. Supports look great too – We Are Not Robots are bruisingly good live, while Witch Fight and Chemical Restraint come with impeccable references.
“Full Of Soaring Guitar-Fuelled Song”
FRI AUG 9: Royal Chant, Wasters, SuperEater, FIngermae @ The Hideaway Bar

Royal Chant @ The Hideaway Bar, Sydney, 21st Sep

Long-time friends of the site Royal Chant are always a pleasure to see, rich and tuneful, and full of soaring guitar-fuelled song. Fingermae were super-impressive last time I saw them, and Wasters know their way round a set like pros. Good clean fun – assuming Royal Chant can keep their clothes on this time.
Bunch Of Five Stars
“Guaranteed Quality”
FRI AUG 9: The Buoys, Imperial Broads, Goodside @ Wayward’s

The Buoys @ The Lansdowne, Sydney, 1st Jun 2019

If you’ve not heard me drone on incessantly about The Buoys yet, we’ve clearly not met. Over the last year, they’ve got better and better – and they were bloody good to satrt with. They’re worth the ticket price alone, but with Imperial Broads and Goodside on the bill too, this one has guaranteed quality written the whole way through it.
“Star Quality”
SAT AUG 10: Sloan Peterson, Lola Scott, Pearl The Girl @ Oxford Art Factory

Sloan Peterson @ The Lansdowne, Sydney, 30th Jun

Sloan Peterson carry themselves with the effortless cool of that really annoying person you know who is good at bloody everything. Star quality just pours off the whole shebang.
“An Explosion Of Wired And Wonderful Anger”
SAT AUG 24: Waax @ Oxford Art Factory

LIVE: WAAX @ Oxford Art Factory, Sydney, 2nd Dec

By now, you should already know that Waax are made of furious joy, an act that’ll fire you up for a punch-up, but leave you smiling and full of love for the world. Get to this show at the Oxford Art Factory if you can – by rights, the venues they play will probably get a bit larger after this tour, and being up close to this explosion of wired and wonderful anger is a rare pleasure.
