Hooper Crescent – Touchscreen

Hooper Crescent have released a flurry of tracks this year, all of it quietly inventive, and more than enough to snap your head around and make you pay attention. Just about everything is slightly off-kilter here, like traditional guitar pop in a funhouse mirror, somewhere between the wonky sensibiities of 80s pop oddities Prefab Sprout and the sharp discordance of Sleater Kinney. Perplexing, but attention-grabbing stuff.

I would like to acknowledge that the gigs that are pictured here, the stages they’re played on, the bars and venues they’re held in, and the good times they represent, are all held on lands that were never ceded by Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I acknowledge these First Australians as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. I pay respect to the Elders of the community and extend my recognition to their descendants.
