Vapor Trails And Hiways: Ride And Mercury Rev Return To Sydney

In a truly glorious lineup of supernova guitars, poppy shoegaze pioneers Ride are returning to Sydney – and bringing cosmic innovators Mercury Rev with them – for a killer night at the Enmore Theatre on 9th Aug.

Both bands trail impressive histories behind them. Ride, of course, burst into view during the shoegaze explosion of the early 90s. Their scorching squalls contained an unusual level of memorable song, and even during their hiatus between 1996 and 2014 (during which Andy Bell joined Oasis as bassist), they remained well-loved. Their welcome reformation ten years ago preceded a series of strong albums, including their most recent LP β€˜Interplay’, released earlier this year.

Mercury Rev, while blazing a trail through the same 90s skies as Ride, took a very different course. With the sort of adventurous, experimental approach you’d expect from a group with intricate early personnel ties to Flaming Lips, their output over the years has been as wildly imaginative as it has been wide-ranging.

Put these two ingredients together – on one bill, on one night – and it promises something very special indeed.
