Most Playlisted This Week
Bolder-faced names dominated the best new music playlists in Australia this week, with big new tracks from Amyl & The Sniffers, Thelma Plum, King Stingray (pictured), Mallrat, tiffi, and Alex The Astronaut. The excellent Nick Ward charged into the top three though to represent for the next gen of artists coming through.
🥇Amyl & The Sniffers, King Stingray, Thelma Plum
🥈tiffi
🥉 Alex the Astronaut, Mallrat, Nick Ward
🍟 Takeouts:
- Not remotely a surprise to see those three artists at the top of the pile – all are consistently well supported, and when they release tracks as strong as all three of them are, they were always going to be top of the pile
- tiffi only just missed the top spot though – in an average week, this would have been a list-topping level of support
- Mallrat and Alex the Astronaut both returned with new music for the first time in a while, but it’s clear their support based among tastemakers remains rock solid
- It was a standout performance this week from Nick Ward though – his latest excellent track ‘Control‘ managed to keep pace in a week with a particularly strong slate, a loud signal of the high regard he’s held in. He’s playing SXSW Sydney in a couple of months, just after his debut album is released, which has surely got to be one of the showcases you’ll want to catch as he takes it to the next level.

The image above is a screenshot of the top end of the full lists. You can see this week’s lists here – those are updated on Mondays and allow you to scroll down the whole list. That page also details a bit more about how the whole thing works and what the charts mean.
You can also listen to the most playlisted tracks on, er, a playlist that I keep updated here. This has got the latest 50-ish most playlisted tracks from the last month or so on it, and it’s a decent spin through recent tracks that Australian new music playlisters are adding. The playlists that I track are the same as the ones listed in the Playlist Guide.
