Most Playlisted This Week
It was another BIG week of releases, and with enough quality in it to make it tough for the best new music playlisters in Australia to come to a consensus. Fully eight artists peeked up above the pack though, with several emerging artists doing particularly well in a crowded week.
🥇ONEFOUR, Gordi, The Terrys, Telenova, Beckah Amani, Juice Webster, DOWNGIRL, Hellcat Speedracer
🍟 Takeouts:
- There was a huge range of new tracks on offer this week – anything over 800 different tracks by 650+ artists across the lists I track makes it a big week.
- When it’s this busy, it’s often hard for any particular releases to stand out. This week, we’ve ended up with no less than eight artists on the podium – while the percentage of playlists they appeared on is pretty low, it was also a big week for updates, with 29 playlists updating this week. With so much activity, it’s really hard to appear on a broader spread than this.
- It was a tale of two halves at the top with a 50:50 split of emerging artists and more established acts. Among the more bold-faced names, ONEFOUR, Gordi, The Terrys and Telenova all got strong backing – all four are also regularly well-backed, so while it’s hard to get up there this week, it’s less of a surprise to see these sorts of names out front.
- The emerging four did particularly well though, with Hellcat Speedracer, Beckah Amani, and DOWNGIRL (pictured) all shoving their way to the front of the queue. DOWNGIRL are of particular interest, the only top-supported artist not to make it onto a Spotify editorial list. That’s not a criticism, that’s to highlight the depth of independent playlister support they got this week for their dual singles ‘DIG’ and ‘HORSEGIRL’. A huge range of indie listers backed at least one of these tracks, as well as a strong spot on Home & Hosed, showing off the grassroots support this excellent band has built up.

The image above is a screenshot of the top end of the full lists. You can see this week’s lists here – those are updated on Mondays and allow you to scroll down the whole list. That page also details a bit more about how the whole thing works and what the charts mean.
You can also listen to the most playlisted tracks on, er, a playlist that I keep updated here. This has got the latest 50-ish most playlisted tracks from the last month or so on it, and it’s a decent spin through recent tracks that Australian new music playlisters are adding. The playlists that I track are the same as the ones listed in the Playlist Guide.
