It was one of those oddball weeks on the playlists that happen every now and again, where there was very little consensus, with less artists being obvious and widespread favourites. While this kind of sucks for dorks like me who build charts, it usually means good news for listeners since that lack of agreement implies that the week is absolutely chock full of good music. Out of this fizzing mass of quality, Sycco bubbled up to claim the top spot – but there was a ton of good stuff out there this week.

🍟 Takeouts:

• The support behind Sycco’s latest track, ‘Monkey Madness‘, is no surprise, she’s the 7th most playlisted artist of 2024 to date (plus the track absolutely bangs, obviously)
• Last week was a busy week to start with, and this week added tracks by 5% more artists. That no single artist made it onto more than 25% of the playlists I track shows just how wide the quality was this week, making it a tough one for playlisters to come to a consensus. For reference, the top three slots most often all break the 25% barrier.
• It was notable that all the top two slots were dominated by artists with 30k Spotify followers or less – that’s a lot of up-and-coming acts edging ahead of some more well-established artists
• Agung Mango got the standout support though – in a tough week when it was tough to stand out at all, it was quite the achievement to speed just ahead of a large and well-qualified pack
