Most Playlisted: Teenage Joans

The always-brilliant Teenage Joans’ released ‘5 Things I Can Taste’ this week and it propelled them right out front among the playlists I track, gaining them more spots than any other act.

Most Playlisted This Week

🥇Teenage Joans

🥈Babe Rainbow

🥉Angie McMahon, Gut Health

Impressively, this is the third release in a row which has seen them top the playlisters’ preferences, which is incredibly solid and consistent support. The album’s due 13 Oct, days ahead of multiple SXSW Sydney shows, and it feels like this year’s going to end crazy strong for this fabulous band.

Looking elsewhere, you’d expect to see an artist of Babe Rainbow’s size near the top and sure enough, they won the silver spot with ‘Obsession’, taken from their ‘Mushroom’ EP. Angie McMahon is also enjoying a run of really solid support, as ‘Exploding’ becomes her fourth successive release to get the NMF AU & NZ nod and sees her become the second most widely playlisted artist of the year so far.

Story Of The Week though goes to Gut Health, whose latest track ‘Uh-oh’ gained them more playlist adds than a fistful of waaay more established acts. Also playing SXSW Sydney in Oct, theirs should be a must-see show for those hunting for what’s coming up fast.

The image above is a screenshot of the top end of the full lists. You can see this week’s lists here – those are updated on Mondays and allow you to scroll down the whole list. That page also details a bit more about how the whole thing works and what the charts mean.

You can also listen to the most playlisted tracks on, er, a playlist that I keep updated here. This has got the latest 50-ish most playlisted tracks from the last month or so on it, and it’s a decent spin through recent tracks that Australian new music playlisters are adding. The playlists that I track are the same as the ones listed in the Playlist Guide.
