Hair Die @ The Oxford Circus, 6th Oct

SHOW NOTES

Hair Die are new to me, but at the end of their residency here in the barkingly ornate shabbiness of The Oxford Circus, I get the sense Iโ€™ll be seeing more of them. Singer Alys has clearly been putting in work in front of mirrors and/or cameras (I suspect the latter), pulling off some note-perfect rock-pose snarls, the sort that make it blissfully easy to be a gig photographer. This is star material that youโ€™d have to be a moron not to recognise. While Alys glowers and prowls the stage, the band of boys supply some solid tunes to go with it, and its meaty stuff. Never quite approaching unpleasant, but never letting you get comfortable, itโ€™s muscular guitar pop with a shadow in its soul, a loveable bear with a sore tooth and a rumbly stomach. Coupled with the glittering star fronting it all, itโ€™s a bit of a show already, and thatโ€™s on a stage the size of my hat. I think weโ€™ll all start being bloody impressed when they get a shot at spreading their wings a bit. I already am.”
