“While singer Joe’s previous band Black Zeros were always more raw than cooked, this new version – Sloan Peterson – is chock full of lovely moments. Clever, well-read references abound. It’s *incredibly* reserved, it holds back, which is a rare talent these days. Jesse gets to shred properly just once in the whole set, a sign of both knowing when to unleash shit, and when to be restrained. Moments of punkiness seep through, but the abiding memory is still of groove and polish and swing and French film-making. Anyway, I love it, it’s cool as all hell.”
