A thoughtful outing from the fizzy bunnies of Royal Chant, though it is no less welcome for it. Taken from their three-track ‘Superstar’ EP, we find them channelling Cohen and Reed in both the vocal and the melody, with as much world-weary metaphor as they can muster. This is Royal Chant in contemplative mood, with a sore back and calluses on their hands – if the Velvet Underground had written Springsteen’s ‘Glory Days’ it’d have come out like this, both celebration and tragedy all wrapped up into one.

I would like to acknowledge that the gigs that are pictured here, the stages they’re played on, the bars and venues they’re held in, and the good times they represent, are all held on lands that were never ceded by Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
